Superior Testing and Selective Breeding

At Joteel Border Terriers, we go above and beyond to ensure that each puppy we breed is healthy and well-adjusted. We perform all the required testing to screen for genetic conditions and health issues. This ensures that our puppies have the best start in life and can look forward to a future of good health.

We meticulously pair our bitches with studs that best complement them, drawing from an extensive network of top-quality dogs across the US and Canada. This selective breeding approach helps produce puppies with excellent temperaments, conformation, and overall well-being.

Early Neurological Stimulation and Socialization

Our commitment to our puppies starts from day three with early neurological stimulation. This scientifically backed method helps foster resilience and adaptability in our puppies. By the time they are three weeks old, they are integrated into our home environment, exposed to typical house noises, and socialized with our dogs and family members. We introduce them to new experiences as often as we can, ensuring they grow into well-rounded dogs ready to engage with the world.

Comprehensive Vet Checks and Ongoing Support

Before our puppies find their forever homes, they undergo thorough veterinary checks. This includes listening to their hearts for murmurs, administering their first shots, and an overall health assessment.

Our commitment to our puppies—and their new families—continues long after they leave our home. New owners are encouraged to contact us for any information or support. Should any health issues arise upon your vet's inspection, we ask that you return the puppy so we can address the problem promptly.

Versatile, Loving, and Adventure-Ready Dogs

Our dogs tend to become whatever the family needs them to be. We not only have champions in conformation, but also in dock diving, agility, scent work, rally, obedience, fast cat, barn hunt and earth dogs.

They tend to have a nurturing sense for any family member who is ailing and will stick by their side. We've had puppies go to homes with families that have special needs individuals and they are immediately attracted to them.

Once they've had all their shots after 12 weeks, we encourage you to get them out for socialization for different experiences; i.e., Lowes, Home Depot, Scheels, Ace Hardware, etc. People have taken their dogs to the mountains for hiking or put them in a life jacket and go boating or swimming. They know no limits. If you travel they are excellent on a plane or car.

We encourage you to attend puppy obedience classes because it tends to give them more confidence and is a great socialization tool. The more you put into your dog, the more you'll reap the benefits.

We do not ship but are always willing to deliver puppy to the airport or drive up to 2 hours to deliver. Of course, new owners are always welcome to our home.

Our Testimonials

Joteel's Numero Uno
"Max"

"UD PCDX GN RM MX MXJ MJB MXF JE BCAT SWA DM TKA

Max was actually my second Border Terrier from breeders John and Mateel Smith.

The first was Molly, a spicy little bitch who was my "learning dog". During our time together she and I earned titles in Obedience (CD PCDX), Rally (RM), Earthdog (JE), Agility MX, MXB, MXJ, MXB, MJB, XF), Scentwork (SWN) and Tricks (TKA). She was fun! And my granddaughter adored her - so much so, that when we moved from Nebraska to Texas she offered me her life savings of about $36 to allow Molly to stay behind with her. I could not refuse. As I wept on the road to Texas I contacted Mateel and told her I was not going to make it without a Border Terrier. She came through with "Uno", who was a year old and not fulfilling their expectations in Conformation. Mateel was deft in using her network to get Uno on a flight to San Antonio, where I scooped him up at the airport and we started our journey. The first thing I did was bestow on him the name "Max", which I considered to be a more energetic call name. Perhaps that was my mistake!

From his list of titles in many different venues, one can tell that Max was versatile and tireless. He was the most fun and challenging to train but also frustrating to trial. Max would do anything that was asked of him and wanted to do it more even when I had enough. I had to learn to be very low key and relaxed in the ring to counter his enormous drive and energy. He had a large and supportive following at obedience trials because he was so fun to watch. Max was my almost dog: we almost achieved a MACH, we almost achieved a UDX. His over-threshold nature just didn't let us get to that level of perfection enough times to do the job. But we had great fun and no regrets. He set the bar high for my next dogs in regard to work ethic, attitude and resilience!

John and Mateel have patiently tolerated all my brags about Max's antics and accomplishments. They came to watch him whenever we were in the vicinity. I think it must be fun to watch a dog that you have produced achieve titles in so many sports. When Max started showing signs of age and we needed advice our breeders were there with the information that helped us to wind down.

Max is happily retired with the same granddaughter that still has Molly. His days are calm and he chases squirrels whenever he feels the need.

I would recommend Joteel to anyone interested in a border terrier. They offer home-raised, healthy dogs. Whether you want a gentle family pet, a dog that can compete in sports, or a dog to show in conformation (or all three), they can provide the right companion. I have enjoyed great support from them in all of our adventures and look forward to many more (dogs and adventures)!
